In Music, the interval is the difference in pitch between two tones. The intervals are determined by counting the distance – or number of semitones – between the notes. In the Sound Healing course you will learn that each interval will have a different effect on the mind/body, generally harmonizing/relaxing or dissonant/releasing. You are asked to obtain at least 3 bowls so that you can produce both types of intervals.
Some examples of harmonizing intervals are:
- Perfect unison (2 of the same pitch)
- Perfect fourth (for example C+F)
- Perfect fifth (for example C+G or G+D)
Some examples of dissonant intervals are:
- Major second (for example C+D or F+G)
- Major third (for example C+E)
Using these examples, if you were to choose 3 bowls that would allow you to play both a harmonizing interval and a dissonant interval, you could choose C, D, and G and you would be able to produce both a Perfect 5th (C+G) and a major 2nd (C+D). There are many other combinations you could choose; this is one that will give you a great foundation to practice sound healing.
To produce the given interval, the tones played should be of the same octave.
